"Issues in argument structure: The Theta-system"

by Eric Reuland (Utrecht institute of Linguistics OTS) et al.
St. Petersburg State University, April 21-26, 2008.

This course is a part of the Utrecht - St. Petersburg collaboration.

Course description:

Cross-linguistically reflexivity of predicates must be licensed. This will serve as a starting point for exploring argument structure and operations on argument structure as discussed in Reinhart's theta-theory, with a brief excursion into the question of what argument structure may tell us about syntactic categories. Our goal is to acquire an understanding of the nature of the interface between conceptual structure and the (syntactic) computational system. The idea is to have an interactive class in which participants are encouraged to bring up, discuss and present facts from languages they have been investigating.
